Whether you need reading glasses, bifocals, post-cataract surgery care, or eye disease co-management, we've got you covered!

At Garland Vision Center in Coomer Creek, we believe that prevention is the best medicine. That’s why annual eye exams are so important for seniors. Detecting eye conditions early on can help prevent or delay vision loss, keeping your vision clearer for longer. Some serious eye conditions don’t present noticeable symptoms until vision loss has occurred. Fortunately, these can be detected in their early stages by your eye care professional during your eye exam.

If an eye disease is diagnosed, we’ll create a custom treatment plan and monitor your condition closely to ensure the best outcome.

Contact Garland Vision Center today to schedule your eye exam!

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.

Excellent customer service as soon as you walk-in, to the second you leave! My son’s glasses were ... in super quick and the eyeglass technician was very knowledgeable and friendly while helping us pick out his new glasses and during adjusting/fitting when picking up the new glasses. Great experience, thank you!

Great friendly and professional Staff. Dr.Kin really took her time and didn’t rush. She made sure ... my three little ones received the best vision care. I can’t remember this one Staff members name, I believe it was Sarah but she helped my son find his glasses and confidence. He was having a very hard time being a newbie to wearing glasses. Silent tears was falling and I have to admit I wasn’t making it any better. She left the biggest impression on me by calming him down, finding the perfect pair of glasses and making him feel cool about wearing them. I believe she was from Michigan big shout out and kudos to her! Thank you so much!

I came here for the first time having been a patient of Dr. Hernandez at the original Plano location... . Dr. Yin was very polite and took care to explain my symptoms to me. I was pleased to experience the same level of quality as I was used to. After reading some reviews, I remind others to remember that doctors and other HCPs have only as much information as you provide.

I've come here a couple years now and the physicians & service is always fantastic! I had a bit of a... n issue with my glasses last year, but Sarah was so professional and took care of everything. They were all so wonderful I came back again this year. Go see my guy Manuel, he'll help you pick out something fabulous from their wide selection of stylish frames.

I’ve had really good experiences here. The communication at the front desk with Katelyn is always ... very helpful and the exam process along with the checkout is always so swiftly taken care of by Sarah. The atmosphere is great!

I found Garland Vision amongst my providers after a bad experience with an eye chain care clinic. I ... was hesitant as I had two previous bad experiences but this one turned to be a nice experience. Staff is patience and kind, lenses take like a week to be made and quality of the product is great. I have four kids who wear lenses and they constantly get them broke, so good quality is something I always look for.
